    Our client is currently seeking Product Development Engineer - (Mechanical)

    OVERVIEW:
    Responsible for creating and developing solutions to technical problems. Expected to work in a professional, efficient, and organised manner as part of a team, communicating clearly internally and externally.

    MAIN DUTIES:-- transferring (early stage) laboratory concepts into low cost product designed for high volume production,-- complete design of parts and assemblies accounting for proposed manufacturing steps,-- anticipate requirements of eventual CEM and input them into product design stages as needed,-- liaise with suppliers and adjust designs to ensure overall project timescales are met,-- validate chosen design and improve design details to ensure the desired cost parameters are met.-- consider QA requirements of manufacturer and prepare required design data,-- write reports and presentations to document findings,-- travel to suppliers' and client's premises or other meeting venues both within the UK & abroad.

    COMPETENCIES:
    Essential:-- Detailed knowledge of design for manufacture -- QA systems-- 3D CAD - preferably SolidWorks-- Wide practical workshop experience-- Hands-on problem solving abilities-- Teamwork-- Self motivation and an ability to operate with minimal supervision

    Desirable:-- Solid knowledge of modern manufacturing processes, specifically: moulding, assembly and metal forming-- Commercial experience, especially in a consultancy or engineering context-- Creativity-- Good mathematical/analytical skills-- Able to work from first principles

    QUALIFICATIONS:-- Degree or equivalent leading to a demonstrable track record in 3D design of volume assembled instruments or similar-- Sufficient experience in manufacturing-- IMechE would be advantageous [or a desire to undertake it]
